Mathur Hanging Trough is the highest as well as the longest aqueduct in Asia. This structure is situated in a hamlet Mathur at a distance of 3 km from Thiruvattar. This is one of the impotant tourist spots of the Kanyakumari district. This was constructed across the river Pahrali. The seven foot (2.1 m) high trough in the bridge which receives water from the canal Pattanamkal, carries the water for irrigation from one side to the other of the hill. This was constructed by the former chief minister of Tamil Nadu, K.Kamaraj, as a drought relief measure in the Vilavancode and Kalkulam Taluks.
The tallest as well as the longest trough bridge in Asia with a height of 115 feet and a length of one km. Constructed in 1966, this bridge has become a place of attraction for both foreign and domestic tourists. The bridge was constructed across the river Parazhiyar at a cost of Rs. 12.90 lakhs.
The trough canal (Pattanamkal canal) carries water for irrigation from one side of a hill to the other side. Twenty-eight huge pillars shoulder the bridge.
